Tibetan Himalayan Gift Shop is a family owned business of Ngawang Choechen and Tenzin Dolma. We specialize in an assortment of merchandise ranging from Tibet to the entire Himalayan regions. We make an attempt to travel to the Himalayan countries twice a year and collect the unique items from the Tibetan and Hiamalayan artists, craftsmen, dealers, etc.

Ngawang was born and has spent his childhood life in independent Tibet. After escaping Tibet, he began his school education in a Tibetan refugee school in India and later completed his master’s degree with a teaching degree in a reputed Indian university. He worked as a school teacher and administrator for over 20 years in India and Nepal. He came to the United States in 2000. Initially he worked as an Interpreter for the Tibetan community in New York for over three years and later as an Executive Director for the Tibetan American Foundation of Minnesota in their Tibetan Culture Center for over a year. After relocating to North Carolina in 2005, he worked at Sears in Raleigh and Cary for over six years until the family opened the gift store in November 2011.

Tenzin Dolma was born to a Tibetan family in Nepal. She also studied in a Tibetan refugee school in Nepal and later completed her school education from India. Before coming to the United States, she worked in a Tibetan refugee school and also helped Ngawang in starting a private school in Nepal. After coming to the United States, initially she worked at a Human Resource Office in New York and after relocating to North Carolina, she worked at Rex Hospital for over six years.

A Tibetan Himalayan gift store idea came into our minds several years ago. We have been researching and discussing with friends and well wishers regarding the gift store idea, selection of location, product procurement, etc. Finally we opened our shop at the present location in Cary, North Carolina in November 2011.

Our current products include: Tibetan and Himalayan traditional apparel and fashion clothing for men and women. We also have pashmina/cashemere shawls, silk scarves, traditional Tibetan scarves and fashion jewelry. Other products include a variety of Himalayan hand made cotton bags, meditation cushions, Tibetan door curtains and table covers. Besides we carry spiritual items such as Tibetan prayer flags, prayer wheels, incense, incense burners, Tibetan Buddhist scrolls (Thangka), etc. We also carry wall hangings and decoration pieces with auspicious symbols, singing bowls, greeting cards, books, DVDs on Tibet, Nepal, Tibetan culture, Buddhism and general. We have variety of CDs with relaxing music and chants. Gradually, we plan to broaden our product line according to our clients’ needs and interests.

We make an earnest effort to offer customized services to our valued customers so that they will experience a satisfying shopping experience. We offer symbolic appreciation rewards repeat shoppers for their loyalty. We maintain a peaceful and tranquil environment in the store with relaxing music and video on the Tibetan and Himalayan culture. Finally, we would like to express our gratitude to all our returning customers, first time visitors, friends and well wishers for their sincere and constant support to succeed our business.
